Drawing, pen and brown ink and watercolour, 17,4x24,9 cm. - Browned; closed tear in left part. = With a small manuscript note with biographical records written by one of the organizers of a lottery at the Groningen art society in November 1905. This drawing was one of the prizes.

      Oil/wood. 40 x 56,5 cm. Lo. ri. sign. D. v. Dongen, on the reverse Christie's block stamp. Zustand Retouchings. - Provenance: Christie's London, 25.10.1985, lot 1; Christie's Amsterdam, 13.11.1990, lot 201; estate Countess Finck von Finckenstein-Brinkama - Dutch landscape painter in the tradition of the 17th century. After initial lessons with his father, D. trained in The Hague with J. Xavery. In 1771 he moved to Rotterdam, where his studio developed into an artistic meeting place. At an advanced age he had to stop painting because of an eye illness. Mus.: St. Petersburg (Hermitage), Rotterdam, Leiden a. others. Lit.: AKL, Thieme-Becker, Bénézit.
