George Olszanski (George D'Olszanski-Ronikier) was born in Poland, and studied art in Poland before serving with the British Army in India and Europe during World War II. He later tudied at the Royal Academy School in Rome 1945-47 before leaving for Australia in 1948. He first exhibited with the Merioola group in Sydney and later at Clune Galleries and David Jones Gallery.

He was art director at David Jones and director of the David Jones Gallery 1950-59. Best known for his colourful semi-abstract paintings, this drawing also reveals a command over figure drawing which can be compared to the work of Francis Lymburner
