WITHDRAWN Martin Dobson Railway Artist, Born 1947, Titled 'Duke Of Gloucester' 71000. Oil on Board, Signed. Commissioner 1973. 21x30''. The Painting by the renowned railway artist was commissioned in 1973. The engine was discovered in a scrap yard earlier in 1973 by a group of railway enthusiasts and the 71000 (Duke of Gloucester) Steam Locomotive Trust Limited was set up with The Duke Of Gloucester HRH as Honorary President and raised the necessary funds required to rebuild it from scratch and bring it finally back into service in 1986. The engine was built as a prototype at the end of the steam era and is the only one ever built in its class and this together with the painting are both of historical & scientific importance in the steam railway memorabilia field. The locomotive was originally listed for preservation in 1962 for display in the National Railway Museum but this was abandoned due to operational difficulties. The engine is now loaned out by the Trust and operates regularly on the East Lancashire Railway and the Settle-Carlisle route and has operated on many other famous routes.

Martin Dobson Railway Artist, Born 1947, Titled 'Duke Of Gloucester' 71000. Oil on Board, Signed. Commissioner 1973. 21x30''. The Painting by the renowned railway artist was commissioned in 1973.
