    Nikolai Dmitrievich Dmitriev-Orenburgsky,  Russian 1838-1898-  Study for 'Sunday (Easter) in the Village';  oil on canvas, signed in Cyrillic (lower left), 24.8 x 42 cm.  Provenance:  Private Collection, UK.  Note:  Dmitriev-Orenburgsky was known as a participant in the 'Revolt of the Fourteen', as one of the fourteen students who decided to leave the Imperial Academy of Arts in 1863, instead forming the independent St. Petersburg Artel of Artists. The work of Dmitriev-Orenburgsky, like that of many of his contemporaries in the Artel, had a significant impact on subsequent generations of Russian artist. Indeed, his preoccupation with the depiction of rural, rustic communities heavily influenced the development of the 'peredvizhniki' movement.  The present work is a study for Dmitriev-Orenburgsky's completed composition of 'Sunday (Easter) in the Village', painted in 1884 and now in a private collection.  We are grateful to Dr Elena Nesterova for her assistance in preparing the catalogue entry.
