      Property from a private collector St. Simons Island, GA Description: John Robert Dicksee (British, 1817-1905), Anticipation, Oil on Canvas, initial signed lower right, depicting a seated woman in a blue and white dress holding a book, matted and framed with title and artist plaque below image. Frame size: 22 in. x 20 in. Born in 1817, John Robert Dicksee was the first in a family of artists. Dicksee became known for his portrait and figure paintings. He received his artistic training as a pupil under H. P. Briggs, RA. Between 1852-1897 Dicksee was head drawing master at the City of London School. He was also the first curator of the art collection of the Corporation of the City of London. Throughout his career Dicksee exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and other British art societies. Measurements: Height: by sight 13 5/8 in. x Width: 11 3/4 in. Condition: Good condition, some craquelure, small areas of inpainting along craquelure, small raised bump in canvas in mid right side.
