Narcisse Virgile Diaz de la Peña 1807 Bordeaux – 1876 Menton Öl auf sehr kräftiger Malpappe. Undeutlich signiert "N. Diaz" u.li. In einem schmalen Holzrahmen mit goldfarbener Sichtleiste gerahmt. Wohl WVZ Miquel 1283, dort als unsigniert bezeichnet und mit der Provenienzangabe: Nr. 39 Verkauf Diaz, Hôtel Drouot, Paris, 4–5/04/1861, FF 260, Collot. Collection Collot (Freund von Diaz und großer Kunstsammler). Narcisse Virgile Diaz de la Peña 1807 Bordeaux – 1876 Menton Autodidakt, arbeitete zunächst als Porzellanmaler. Schloss sich unter dem Einfluss von Eugène Delacroix der romantischen Bewegung an und studierte insbesondere die Werke Correggios. Seine Landschaftsstudien stellte er im Pariser Salon aus. 1850 wird er selber Teil der Jury, organsisiert Versteigerungen "unfertiger" Gemälde und Studien und unterstützt weniger erfolgreiche Maler und Freunde, darunter Rousseau und Millet, finanziell. Besonders bekannt sind seine Darstellungen des Waldes von Fontainebleau oder mit Viehherden staffierte Landschaften. Die Brillanz seiner Farben, des Lichts und der Motivik weiblicher Gestalten prägte vor allem Monticelli und Renoir.

Narcisse Virgile Diaz de la Peña (French, 1808-1876) 'La petite fille au chien' signed lower left 'N Diaz' oil on panel 26 x 25cm Provenance: G. M. Lotinga Ltd., London, 1958, Where acquired by the family of the present vendor The painting is executed in oil on a wooden panel support. The panel and paint layers are in a good, stable condition overall. There is a scuff to the paint layer above the sitter’s head and some minor abrasion in the upper section of the painting. The varnish has yellowed slightly with age, but is even and glossy.
