Etchings, printed on linen, c. 9,5 x 7,3 cm, 4 signed "D Deuchar f", 1 signed "c bega". - Series by the British David Deuchar (1742-1808) after Dutch masters such as Jan Gillisz. van Vliet (c. 1600-1668) and Cornelis Bega (c. 1631-1664). The plates were originally part of "A collection of etchings after the most eminent masters of the Dutch and Flemish schools, particularly Rembrandt, Ostade, Cornelius Bega and Van Vliet", etched from 1782 to 1803 and published in 1803. A complete set is in London (British Museum, inv. 1861,0413.56). - Joined: Marcus, Jacob Ernst - Study of a child, man and woman. 1811. Ca. 258 Radierungen, vereinzelt mit Aquatinta, in 3 (von 4) Lederbänden d. Z. (Vol. 1: 83 Drucke, Vol. 3: 81 Drucke, Vol. 4: 95 Drucke) mit Gold- und Blindprägung sowie Goldschnitt (Kanten und Ecken bestoßen und leicht beschabt), je zzgl. Titelblatt. 4to. Edinburgh, 1803. -- -- David Deuchars motivisch vielseitiges Recueil mit radierten Wiederholungen nach flämischen und niederländischen Meistern sowie nach eigenen Entwürfen zählt rund 375 Blatt, wobei die Anzahl und Zusammenstellung in den überlieferten Exemplaren leicht variiert. Hier vorliegend die Bände 1, 3 und 4 mit ausgezeichneten bis ganz ausgezeichneten Drucken, meist mit sehr feinem Rändchen um die Einfassung bzw. Plattenkante und überwiegend einzeln auf die Seiten montiert. With 220+ etchings with the title in a floral border, etching opposite title (as frontispiece) and last advertisement-etching: "David Deuchar, Lapidary, Edinburgh. cuts and sels al sorts of fine stones, seals, picture, NB sels emery rottenston &c.". A nice collection, with many etchings from Rembrandt, in various sizes. Almost all known copies have a different number of plates; all are rare.

Mounted etched frontispiece, engraved title with elaborate decorative border, and 69 etched plates mounted on 60 sheets within pen-and-ink ruled frames only (6 lacking [ie 6 pen-and-ink frames without etchings], title lightly spotted, occasional light spotting and staining, plates offset). Finely bound in contemporary red straight-grained morocco, covers with a wide border of alternating fleur-de-lys and flower heads, spine gilt in compartments, gilt edges (extremities quite heavily rubbed, some scuff marks to lower cover).
