    Alfred Thomas Derby (Br., 1821-1873), "Madeline," oil on canvas, signed lower center "A. T. Derby pinxt," canvas bears Robert Davy's stencil listing the 83 Newman Street address (ca. 1822-1843), lower stretcher bears paper label reading "Madeline / Painted by A. T. Derby / 12 Ashmoling / Regents Park," later walnut frame with gilt fillet. The eldest son of William Derby, Alfred Thomas Derby studied at the Royal Academy. Primarily a portrait artist, he exhibited works at the Royal Academy and other exhibitions in London from 1839 to 1872. Thirty of his portraits are currently in the National Portrait Gallery of London. SS 23.5" x 17.5"; DOA 26.75" x 20.75"
