      Hans Rudolf Denzler (1801 Zurich - 1857 ibid.): The surprised couple, 19th century, Pen drawing Technique: Pen drawing over Pencil on Paper Inscription: Inscribed on the backing by another hand: "Rud. Denzler Zürich 1801/1857". Date: 19th century Description: The depiction shows a couple in the open countryside being surprised by some men as they discover the man's discarded breastplate hidden under a branch. The drawing obviously served as a model for one of Denzler's prints, because the reverse of the sheet was completely covered with reddish-brown chalk for transfer. Denzler Zürich 1801/1857" Condition: Smoothed horizontal and vertical crease, somewhat browned and stained. Description: The depiction shows a couple in the open air, overlooked by some men, while they discover the man's bust-armor hidden under a branch.
