D'Entraygues began to study painting first at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, then moved to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He studied there under history painter Isidore Pils. When he arrived in Paris the city and its residents were still recovering from the siege of 1870-71, caused by the German-French war. His teacher, Pils, was one of the artists who put the misery of the streets of Paris in his pictures. In contrast to his teacher, D'Entraygues turned to the picturesque. He devoted himself to humorous genre painting, in which the innocent child was allowed to take up space. Gambling, jokes, and driving children play an outstanding role in his oeuvre. These amusing topics met the spirit of the times. At the Paris Salon, where he exhibited regularly since 1876, he was very successful. Charles Bertrand D'Entraygues passed away in 1929.
