Henry Dentith (b. 1931) Benedictine Abbey of the Dormition, oil on artist board, signed, framed, measurements: 17X24 cm. *Henry Dentith - born in Birmingham, England, 1931. Educated in in boarding school in England where generally an interest in art is considered a perversion. He started a career in advertising, which provided much knowledged that proved of great worth in latter years - creating signatures, fonts, lithographies, reproductions, etc. Henry lived for several years in West Africa as well as Singapore as an international representative for his corporation. Along that, during his tenure as the oversees director of the international office De La Raux, Henry was given the opportunity to visit the great art centers and galleries in Europe. This experinence proved very valuable for the artist but unhelpful in his business career. After a pleasant goodbye Henry returned to England and enrolled to the Sir John Cass College in London. Henry, who never cared for the English climate, decided on moving some were else and start seriously lead the life of a professional artist. He decided on migrating to Israel and has indeed remained there for the next 21 years. During the years that passed Henry became a prominent figure in the country. His works can be seen in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem in a number of leading art galleries. After so many years in Israel, Henry left for England to start an oils series showcasing the village in the British Isles. This has been a successful move since Henry found by chance that 14 years prior his work got admitted to the permantent collection of the world renouned Tate Gallery in London. This fact was not known to him since his name Dentith got mispelled in the Tates' Catalog. Surreal as it must have been, it ended well - the work was luckily discovered, the spelling mistake fixed. Henry was drawn by the resmeblence between the California climate and that of Israel, and was attracted also by the plethora of new materials to investigate, Henry left England for California. Since moving there, Henry fell in love with California and its enormous, diverse, and glamorous beauty. Henry's landscapes arise a calmness that surfaces above the atmosphere of this modern society. Henry feels shamelessly attracted to the earth's magnetism. It is very apparent when the viewer is tempted by his creations. Henry captures the glamour of California in a way that reminds the air painters of Plain from ancient California, while never losing old world classics. Henry's work was represented by the New York Graphic Association and has his works in many prime private collections around the world.
