      COMMODE Directoire, Paris, ca. 1800. Signed J. DeMoulin (Jean Demoulin, 1715-1798) and with the guild stamp of the Jurande. Mahogany "moucheté" inlaid with brass fillets and overlaid with brass profiles. Rectangular body with gray speckled marble top edged on three sides with a brass gallery, on a straight frame and spherical feet. Front with five drawers arranged in three rows, the top ones slightly offset. Brass mounts. 2 keys. 126 × 59 × 91 cm. Minor losses. Brass gallery slightly bent. Provenance: Private collection, Suisse romande. --------------- KOMMODE Directoire, Paris, um 1800. Signiert J. DeMoulin (Jean Demoulin, 1715–1798) sowie dem Innungsstempel der Jurande. Mahagoni "moucheté" eingelegt mit Messingfilets und belegt mit Messingprofilen. Rechteckiger Korpus mit grau gesprenkeltem, in dreiseitiger Messinggalerie gefasstem Marmorblatt auf gerader Zarge und Kreiselfüssen. Front mit fünf Schubladen auf drei Rängen, die obersten leicht abgesetzt, zwischen rund vorstehenden Eckstollen. Messingbeschläge. 2 Schlüssel. 126 × 59 × 91 cm. Geringe Fehlstellen. Messinggalerie wenig verbogen. Provenienz: Westschweizer Privatbesitz. ---------------

Demoulin", for Jean Demoulin (1715-1798), the variegated gray and white serpentine marble top over a conforming case with a bank of three conforming drawers, each with shaped mahogany panels and bronze mounts, the Demoulin stamp overstruck at a different angle, the piece also signed in script "Francois...". h. 33", w. 20-1/2", d. 38" Notes: Jean Demoulin worked as a master ebeniste in Paris, ca. 1745, and later in Dijon, Burgundy, ca. 1780.

      with the impressed name; J DEMOULIN, the fold over top opening to reveal a baize lined surface CATALOGUE NOTE Jean Demoulin (1715-1798) originated in Burgundy, moved to Paris and finished his career in Dijon. In Paris he was based in Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine. He worked for such important clients as the Duc de Choiseul and the Prince de Conde, probably at whose instigation he eventually became Governor of Burgundy.
