Víctor Hugo Demo, better known by the nickname of "Grillo", is an Argentinean artist based in Ibiza since 1978, author of paintings, watercolours, installations and collages on different supports found on his numerous trips. He began his training in the field of architecture in Rosario, but after two years he abandoned these studies to devote himself full time to artistic creation. Famous for his works with jasmines, he has collaborated with magazines such as "Interview", "Andy Warhol Interview" and "Vogue", as well as with fashion photographers and designers, making interventions on their garments. Grillo develops a language of Mediterranean colour, luminous and expressive, in which very different cultural influences are combined, the result of his experience travelling around the world, and also diverse materials and techniques, photography being one of the most recurrent in his production. In 1999 he made his name in a group show held at the David Gill Gallery in London, and that same year, in November, he held his first solo show at the same gallery. Also in 1999 he made his solo debut in his native country, with the exhibition "Jazmines en el aire" (Wasser, Buenos Aires). Since then he has held solo exhibitions in leading galleries in London, Rome, Ibiza, Buenos Aires, New York, Hong Kong, Punta del Este (Uruguay) and Madrid. Phillips de Pury also dedicated an important retrospective to him in New York. He has also taken part in fairs and group exhibitions in New York, such as the group show curated by Mario Testino at the Andrea Rosen Gallery in 2004, Monaco, Buenos Aires and other cities. His works are currently distributed around the world, in prominent art collections, and he counts Madonna, Kate Moss and Jade Jagger, among others, among his admirers.
