      MODESTO DELGADO RODAS (Paraguay, 1886-1963). Untitled. Oil on canvas. Slight repainting. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 46 x 38 cm. Scene of costumbrist character where a man works in his labour without the spectator's eyes. The work has a great presence of the landscape which is not portrayed in a secondary or contextual way in the work, but stands out with its own personality being masterfully modelled by the light. The author uses dark tones in the foreground, while the luminosity opens up in a scene conceived in the distance where the immensity of the sea can be appreciated. Modesto Rodas was a well-known Paraguayan artist who became famous for his landscapes and genre scenes. Rodas began his studies in Asunción at the Instituto Paraguayo, under the guidance of Héctor Da Ponte and Julio Mornet, and continued them in Buenos Aires. He completed his education in Europe, particularly in Italy, although he also spent long periods of time in France. He developed his career at an international level, exhibiting in numerous places in the American continent and in Europe. He has exhibited in places such as Washington D. C., Baltimore, Buenos Aires, Asunción. Baltimore, Buenos Aires, Asunción. In the words of Josefina Plá: "He was the only Paraguayan painter who painted nudes with assiduity, although almost all those paintings were always small in size, and therefore remained within the genre painting.... His paintings are distinguished by their loose, broad brushstrokes and light. His painting... remains within a sometimes conventional post-impressionism".
