      Artist: PIERRE-CHARLES DELARUE-NOUVELLIÈRE Size: 31 3/8 x 15 3/4 in./79.6 x 40 cm S.I.D.I., Levallois Celebrating the 17th win by a Dunlop-tired vehicle at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, Delarue gives us the 1956 champion steadily barreling under the Dunlop arch. In reality, the number 4 Jaguar D-Type driven by Ron Flockhart was metallic blue, but the green makes for a far more compelling composition.

      The town of Le Mans was the home of the first major Grand Prix race in 1906. The name had been used before at Pau, but the Grand Prix de l'Automobile Club de France was the first big circuit race. The international fame of Le Mans was not to be based on Grand Prix racing, however, but rather on the 24 Heures du Mans, which was held for the first time in 1923. Ecurie Ecosse was a motor racing team from Scotland, founded in 1952 by Edinburgh businessman and racing driver David Murray and mechanic Wilkie Wilkinson. Its most notable achievement was winning the 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans. Based at Merchiston Mews in Edinburgh, the team's cars were always distinctive for their Flag Blue Metallic paint job-a detail not accurately portrayed in this otherwise literal-minded Delarue-Nouvellière poster commemorating the victory.
