      Est: €6,000 - €6,500

Holy Family with San Juanito. Oil on canvas measurements: 105 x 75 cm. Measurements with frame: 116 x 90 cm. Born in Seville, he was a member of a prominent Andalusian noble family, and entered in 1660 as a knight of the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. For this reason he had to move to the island of Malta, seat of the Order and its Grand Master, to take the tests as a knight, carrying out the mandatory tasks of stewardship and also of a war type (especially against the Turks). In his brief returns to his hometown he took the opportunity, for example, to photograph the recently appointed Seville archbishop Ambrosio Ignacio de Spínola (1670), demonstrating how much he knew the Murrillesque style when he was not under the chiaroscuro influence of Preti, and that it is true what the classics of art historiography point out: his great ability as a portraitist. On another occasion he would take the opportunity to join the prestigious and elitist Brotherhood of Charity. In August 1695, Núñez de Villavicencio returned to Madrid from Seville, where he would have traveled on personal matters or to rest. He was surely going to rejoin his position when he died at the inn where he was staying. This is recorded in the account books of the Madrid reception of the Order of Saint John, which contain the accounts due to his death and even a brief inventory of his possessions at his last moment, as well as other details. of his will. Provenance: important private collection, Madrid. Lot not subject to reserve price. Liquidation of important private family collection.

      Est: €10,000 - €12,000

Attributed to PEDRO NUÑEZ DE VILLAVICENCIO (Seville, 1644 - Madrid, 1695). "Young people". Oil on canvas. It retains its original canvas. It presents repainting. Measurements: 165 x 110,5 cm. The artist offers us a work worked with the delicacy with which Murillo worked his feminine figures and children, making special emphasis on their poor and naive character in the case of the last ones. In this work we see a scene framed within 17th-century costumbrismo, worked with a realistic language in which a balanced and well-established composition stands out, as well as the almost pearly quality of the children's flesh tones. This composition and the subject matter, typical of scenes from the reality of Golden Age Spain and the picaresque literature of the period, bring the work close to the naturalist trend. Costumbrismo is a genre in which popular types and attitudes, behaviour, values and habits common to a specific group of the population, region or class are described by means of a satirical, nostalgic or narrative description of the environments, customs, dress, festivals and entertainments, traditions, trades and types representative of a society. The idea of costumbrismo arose from an attempt to understand reality, or more precisely, reality understood in a particular way, from a specific point of view. Born in Seville, Pedro Núñez took part in the founding of the Seville Academy of Fine Arts, founded by Murillo and Herrera el Mozo. Murillo directed this workshop with numerous assistants and apprentices whose main aim was to complete the training of young painters who were considered insufficient in drawing. Pedro Núñez's participation was certainly exceptional for his age, and he made some of the additions in the Seville market hall where the artistic institution was established. He himself became a member of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem in 1661 and had to settle in Malta, alternating with trips to Seville, possibly Rome, and southern Italy, where he worked as a painter and met the Calabrian Mattia Preti. In 1675, owing to the plague that broke out in Malta, he returned permanently to Seville, where he became the Order's point of reference in administrative matters for the priory in Castile. In 1693 and 1694 he went to Madrid to participate in the commission that was to appoint the Order's ambassador to the Court of Madrid. It was on this occasion that he offered the painting Juegos infantiles a Carlos II ("Children's Games to Charles II") on his return from one of his trips to Seville. He is known for being Murillo's friend and executor on the death of the master of Seville in 1682.

In walnut wood. Provenance: Private collection. Measures: 265 x 285 x 82 cm.

      Est: €20,000 - €25,000

Monumental Renaissance bench, Italy, ca. 1550. In walnut wood. Provenance: Private collection. Measures: 265 x 285 x 82 cm. Exceptional Italian Renaissance bench-archon. It consists of a structure of architectural inspiration and a wide iconographic program where classical motifs inspired by Greek and Roman Antiquity are intermingled, although freely interpreted, and heraldic, in a hybridization typical of Renaissance art. Entirely made of walnut wood, it presents magnificent carving in each of its parts: on a modest base there is a frieze worked in high relief with a central heraldic shield around which are arranged symmetrically cartouches representing galloping Amazons, guarded by masks between phylacteries. Winged torsos inspired by Nikés or goddesses of Victory decorate the corners, protruding as prow masks. Two lions carved in rounded bulk preside over the flanks of the bench and serve as bases for the columns of Corinthian order and partially fluted shaft. A triple semicircular arch with finely carved scallop-shaped tympana respectively shelter three soffits in which high and low relief are combined, in which heraldic motifs dominate exalted by triumphal iconography of Greco-Roman inspiration: fruit garlands, laurels, trophies, acanthus, mythical creatures derived from the tritons, putti of harmonious proportions... Two stipes with anthropomorphic torso, female and male respectively, support corbels carved with scrolls and acanthus. Eagles and lion masks, heraldic motifs par excellence, are proffered on the architrave. The seat cover opens, also functioning as a chest. The furniture of the Italian Renaissance enjoyed a development comparable to the rest of its artistic manifestations. Craftsmen spent a minimum of ten years as apprentices before being considered sufficiently qualified to become masters. Although late Gothic style furniture predominates in central and northern Europe almost until the first half of the 16th century, the Renaissance style, born in Italy, soon spread throughout the European courts. It completely changed the concept of decoration and affirmed the idea of the house as a "residence" and furniture became a fundamental element of the stately home. A majestic type of furniture took shape, of elegant classical proportions and built with refined wisdom. In the decorative theme, architectural elements such as columns, plinths, pilasters, balustrades, mirrors, moldings, carved motifs and bas-reliefs began to be used. The wood most used by the craftsmen of the XV and XVI centuries for the construction of quality furniture is walnut.

      Est: €20,000 - €25,000

PEDRO NÚÑEZ DE VILLAVICENCIO (Seville, 1644 - Madrid, 1695). "Young man with lamb". Oil on canvas. Attached study of Don Enrique Valdivieso. Retains label on the back of provenance: Property of Mrs. Platt (London). Measurements: 131 x 99 cm; 152 x 124 cm (frame). A young man stars in a scene, accompanied by a basket with birds and a lamb, indicating the hunting activity of the boy. However, the lamb does not cease to refer to a Christian iconography that wraps a realistic image in a halo of mysticism and religious symbolism. The artist offers us a work worked with the delicacy with which Murillo worked his female figures and children, with special emphasis on their poor and naive character in the case of the latter.
