Estimation 30 000 - 40 000 €

Attributed to FRANCESCO DE MURA (Naples 1696 –1782). "Immaculate Virgin". Oil on copper.

      Est: €3,000 - €3,500

Attributed to FRANCESCO DE MURA (Naples 1696 -1782). "Immaculate Virgin. Oil on copper. Size: 21 x 16,5 cm; 38 x 33 cm (frame). The work has an inscription on the verso: Lagrenée 1724 - 1820; probably in the previous collection it has the attribution to Luois-Jean-François Lagrenée; but in the opinion of Finarte & Minerva Auction Houses, it is not a French rococo, but a Neapolitan work of the XVIII century and, in particular, Francesco De Mura. Francesco de Mura was an Italian painter of the late Baroque period, active mainly in Naples and Turin. After training in the studio of Domenico Viola, from 1708 he joined the studio of Francesco Solimena, where he remained until 1730. The influence of Solimena and his pictorial technique is particularly evident in Mura's early works, such as Christ Dead on the Cross with Saint John, painted in 1713 for the church of San Girolamo alle Monache, and those executed in the early 1720s. From 1728, however, with the works executed for the church of Santa Maria Donnaromita, a variation in style can be seen, tending towards a much more personal pictorial conception, although his work was always strongly linked to the subject matter of the Arcadian scholars, in vogue in Naples at the time. Between 1741 and 1743 he remained in Turin, where he met the architect Benedetto Alfieri and the painter Corrado Giaquinto. He subsequently returned to Naples, where he maintained contact with painters active in Rome, particularly the Frenchman Pierre Subleyras, and was so highly regarded that he was summoned to Madrid to work for the Spanish court. With his chromatic technique and realistic content, typical of Rococo classicism, he greatly influenced the artistic circles of the Neapolitan "Settecento". The Baroque school, particularly in the wake of Francesco Solimena and Luca Giordano, is evident both in his works of a secular nature, such as the frescoes painted for the royal palaces of Turin and Naples, and in the works painted for the church, such as the Epiphany in the church of the Nunziatella in Naples, the Multiplication of the loaves in the cathedral of Foggia and the canvas of San Placido in the church of Poggio Imperiale....

Attributed to FRANCESCO DE MURA (Naples 1696 –1782). "Saint Joseph with the Child". Oil on canvas. Relined.

      Est: €2,500 - €3,000

Attributed to FRANCESCO DE MURA (Naples 1696 -1782). "Saint Joseph with Child. Oil on canvas. Re-coloured. Measurements: 76,5 x 60,5 cm. Image of devotional character whose protagonists are Saint Joseph and the Child, who are placed in the centre of the composition, on a theatrical background dominated by a big bombastic curtain of ochre colour. The child sleeping peacefully is notable for the tenderness he exudes through his innocent gesture, his infant-like flesh tones and his snowy skin combined with curly golden hair and blushing cheeks. His father looks on adoringly. From Trent onwards, his leading role as Jesus' protector during his childhood, as a guide during his youthful years, will be recovered, and as such he is represented here. In contrast to the tenderness, defencelessness and candour of the infant figure, Saint Joseph is presented as a monumental, typically Baroque figure, an impression that is reinforced by the pyramidal composition of the image. Through this form of representation, the author visually emphasises the decisive role of Jesus' putative father as protector. Due to its stylistic characteristics, this work can be attributed to Francesco de Mura, an Italian painter of the late Baroque period, mainly active in Naples and Turin. After training in the studio of Domenico Viola, in 1708 he joined the studio of Francesco Solimena, where he remained until 1730, and where the influence of Solimena and his pictorial technique can be seen particularly in Mura's early works, such as Christ Dead on the Cross with Saint John, painted in 1713 for the church of San Girolamo alle Monache, and those executed in the early 1720s. • Francesco De Mura (1696 – 1782) Madonna and Child in Glory, San Nicola da Tolentino
      Sep. 18, 2023

Francesco De Mura (1696 – 1782) Madonna and Child in Glory, San Nicola da Tolentino

      Est: €4,000 - €6,000

The canvas is a beautiful altarpiece with the Madonna and Child at the top, seated in the clouds and at the bottom two saints, both dressed in black, but on the left is evidently a Franciscan, for the habit tied with rope and clogs which can be seen in plain sight, probably of observant tradition. On the right, on the other hand, is Saint Ignatius of Loyola, in the usual Jesuit dress. Both saints have the same iconographic attribute, the lily. At the bottom of the canvas, in fact, there are two putti who, facing each other, hold the white flower in their hands, clearly one for each saint. The play of shadows and lights, contrasted yet soft, the very white complexions, but with the limbs that light up red on the cheeks, are clear indications of style that bring the painting into the middle of the eighteenth century. The grace of the face and the swollen robes recall the world of Luca Giordano and then very much that of Solimena, of the great Neapolitan tradition, but more modern and mature, so much so that it comes to look at another pupil of Solimena himself, a precise parallel of Conca , Francesco De Mura.

Francesco de Mura (Naples 1696 - 1782) workshop of Eliser meets Rebecca at the well Oil on canvas 113 x 180 cm The artwork is similar to the canvas by Francesco de Mura, now in Museo Nazionale della Ceramica Duca di Martina in Naples. The painting shows a quality that allows us to present it as a workshop replica, that is executed under the direction of the master and with his direct intervention in some parts of the canvas.

Francesco De Mura (1696 – 1782) Madonna and Child in Glory, and San Nicola da Tolentino

      Est: €3,000 - €5,000

The canvas is a beautiful altarpiece with the Madonna and Child at the top seated in the clouds, and at the bottom, two saints, both dressed in black. The one on the left is evidently a Franciscan, based on his habit tied with rope and clogs. On the right is Saint Ignatius of Loyola, in usual Jesuit dress. Both saints have the same iconographic attribute, the lily. At the bottom of the canvas there are two putti who, facing each other, hold a white flower in their hands; clearly one for each saint. The play of shadows and light, contrasted yet soft, and the white complexions that light up red on the cheeks, are clear indications of style that date the painting to the middle of the eighteenth century. The grace of the face and the swollen robes recall the world of Luca Giordano and that of Solimena, in the great Neapolitan tradition, but in this case more modern and mature. Francesco De Mura.

      Jul. 14, 2022

Italian school of the 18th century. Attributed to FRANCESCO DE MURA (Naples 1696 -1782). "Saint Joseph with Child". Oil on canvas.

      Est: €6,000 - €7,000

Italian school of the 18th century. Attributed to FRANCESCO DE MURA (Naples 1696 -1782). "Saint Joseph with Child". Oil on canvas. Measurements: 75 x 63 cm; 93 x 81 cm (frame). Image of devotional character whose protagonists are Saint Joseph and the Child, who are placed in the centre of the composition, on a dark and neutral background. Contrary to what happens in representations of this theme, father and son do not look at each other, but each looks away from the other towards the horizon. The work has no other distracting elements, except for the white flowers which are the iconographic symbol of Joseph. Until the Counter-Reformation, the figure of Saint Joseph was usually kept in the background, as no theological importance was attached to him. After Trent, however, his leading role as the protector of Jesus during his childhood and as a guide during his youth was recovered, and he is depicted here as such. From its stylistic characteristics, this work can be attributed to Francesco de Mura, an Italian painter of the late Baroque period, mainly active in Naples and Turin. From 1728 onwards, however, with the works executed for the church of Santa Maria Donnaromita, a change in style can be seen, tending towards a much more personal pictorial conception, although his work was always strongly linked to the subject matter of the Arcadian scholars, in vogue in Naples at the time. The Baroque school, particularly in the wake of Francesco Solimena and Luca Giordano, is evident both in his works of a secular nature, such as the frescoes painted for the royal palaces in Turin and Naples, and in the works painted for the church, such as the Epiphany in the church of the Nunziatella in Naples, the Multiplication of the loaves in the cathedral of Foggia and the canvas of Saint Placido in the church of Poggio Imperiale.

AGNES ZWISCHEN DEN LÄMMERN Öl auf Leinwand. 63 x 75 cm. (1321432) (13)

FRANCESCO DE MURA (Naples 1696 -1782). "Madonna and Child with Saint John. Oil on canvas. Preserves its original canvas. It presents losses on the pictorial layer. It has a period frame with damages. Measurements: 74 x 72 cm; 116 x 77 cm (frame). The artist of this work has conceived a scene with a long religious tradition, such as the representation of the Virgin, Saint John the Baptist and the Child, from an aesthetic perspective that draws from his own period. In such a way that he conceived the scene in a completely neoclassical style, where the Virgin's hair appears powdered, as does that of the Child. The features are rounded, sinuous and with a pinkish finish that stands out against the pearly skin of the figures. With the exception of the figure of Saint John, whose skin and hair are darker, which, together with his position with his back to the viewer, reveals the preponderance of the Virgin and Child as religious figures of the first order. Due to the aforementioned characteristics, the tonalities used and the pose of the Virgin, this painting can be aesthetically related to the work of the Italian painter Mura.
