"Eine frische Brise weht auf einem der raren Gemälde des Cornelis Pietersz de Mooy und treibt die leichten Segelboote quer durch den Bildraum. Sowohl die Betonung der in dunklen Tönen nahsichtig wiedergegeben vorderen Bildzone als auch die Staffelung der Schiffe auf der bewegten, hell aufschäumenden Wasserfläche erschaffen die Illusion eines dynamischen Tiefenraumes, der in den Lüften von Möwen bevölkert wird. Mit feiner Zeichnung und sanft nuanciertem Kolorit kreiert der Künstler ein stimmungsvolles Seestück. Werden die Elemente in diesem Gemälde des 17. Jahrhunderts in ihrer ungebändigten Wesenhaftigkeit charakterisiert, zeigt Daniel Behrendt die Domestizierung der Natur mittels Sonnenschirm. Schräg gestellt sorgt das Wohnaccessoire für moderate Lichtverhältnisse in den häuslichen Räumen. Eingezwängt auf einem kleinen Balkon, kann der Schirm als Metapher für die Wohnverhältnisse vieler Großstadtbewohner gelesen werden. Lediglich ein kleiner Fransenrand hat sich über die Brüstung gelegt und wirkt wie eine wehmütige Erinnerung an Bilder wie jene von de Mooy, in denen rotweiß gestreifte Stoffe frei im Wind flatterten."
