JOSÉ DE CIEZA (GRANADA, 1656 - MADRID, 1692)

    Est: €4,500 - €5,500

José de Cieza (Granada, 1656 - Madrid, 1692) "Apparition of the Christ Child to Saint Anthony of Padua" Oil on canvas. Relined. With a carved, polychromed and gilded wooden frame There is an inscription in the upper left corner (San Antonio de Padua) and under the table a very worn inscription can be read, which according to Professor Quesada, was probably that of the person who commissioned the painting, Fray Manuel de San Lucas, a Capuchin monk and missionary. Quesada also notes that this attribution is based on the strictly formal comparison with other paintings signed by the artist. Specifically, the figure of Saint Anthony of Padua can be linked to the figure of Christ in the picture "Christ and the Samaritan", signed and dated in 1674 which is located in the Hermitage of San Miguel in Granada. 143 x 95 cm. Frame measurements: 165 x 116 cm. With a certificate by José María Quesada
