"The Slugger Takes a Bride" - 1939 Joe DiMaggio and Dorothy Arnold Wedding Day News Service Photograph

      Est: -

In 1937, Joe DiMaggio met a young singer and actress named Dorothy Arnold on the set of the film Manhattan Merry-Go-Round, in which they both had bit parts. Two years later, on November 19, 1939, Joe and Dorothy were married in San Francisco. Offered is a 7" x 9" news service photograph from that eventful day. The black-and-white photo has an EX image area with light crazing and understandable imperfections apparent in the surface gloss. The reverse displays stamping from both the Associated Press and the San Francisco Examiner newspaper, with the original paper caption reading in part: "Joe DiMaggio, star outfielder for the New York Yankees, and his beautiful bride, the former Dorothy Arnold, radio and screen actress, are shown as they arrived at Joe's cafe for a reception following their wedding at San Francisco November 19. The couple will reside in San Francisco after a Honolulu honeymoon."
