The image dimensions are 35.3 x 30.3 cm, framed 40 x 45 cm. John Phillip Davis (1784-1862) John Philip Davis received his education in London. In 1811 he debuted at the exhibition of the Royal Academy. Since then he was regularly represented at these exhibitions, almost exclusively showing portraits. His multi-figured, large-scale painting "The Talbot Family receiving the Benediction of the Pope Pius VII", created 1823 in Rome, made him quite famous and further earned him the nickname "Pope" Davis. Works by the artist can be found in prestigious collections such as the National Portrait Gallery in London or the Victoria & Albert Museum, among others.
