Biography

Howell was born in the Rhondda Valley. He attended Cardiff School of Art and went on to teach art in comprehensive schools for over twenty years until ill health forced him to retire.

Howell's main source of inspiration is the starkness of the South Wales valleys. Many of Howell's paintings are monochromes which help him to capture a mood of drama which is particularly suited to his view of the Welsh Valleys.

Howell has exhibited widely in many one man and mixed shows and his work is very highly regarded. He has his work in many public and private collections including the National Museum of Wales and also the collection of HRH the Prince of Wales.
