Er gehört zu den bedeutenden Vertretern der Abstrakten Malerei nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, hier: Abstrakte Komposition mit männlichem Porträt, einen Hut tragend, Gouache/dünner Karton, 50 x 63 cm, l. o. sign. u. dat. Davie (19)75, unter P.partout in weißem Holzrahmen der 1970er Jahre Zum Künstler: Alan Davie studierte von 1937 bis 1941 in Edinburgh am College of Art, 1946 zieht er nach London. Beeinflusst von der Kunst von Paul Klee und Pablo Picasso, beginnt Davie abstrakt zu malen. Im Jahr 1948 unternimmt er Studienreisen durch Europa und trifft dabei in Venedig Peggy Guggenheim. Diese Begegnung bringt Davie zur ersten Annäherung an die frühen Werke des amerikanischen Abstrakten Expressionismus. Davie lässt sich davon und insbesondere vom Werk Jackson Pollocks inspirieren. Eines seiner ersten Bilder dieser Zeit wird von Peggy Guggenheim gekauft.1950 hat Alan Davie seine erste Einzelausstellung in London. Im Jahr 1956 bereist er New York, im selben Jahr erhält er den Prix Guggenheim im Musee d'Arte Moderne in Paris. Seine Kunst bekommt internationale Anerkennung und Aufmerksamkeit. Davie (19)75, under passepartout in a white wooden frame from the 1970s About the artist: Alan Davie studied at the College of Art in Edinburgh from 1937 to 1941, moving to London in 1946. Influenced by the art of Paul Klee and Pablo Picasso, Davie began to paint abstractly. In 1948, he travelled through Europe and met Peggy Guggenheim in Venice. This encounter brought Davie closer to the early works of American Abstract Expressionism. Davie was inspired by this and in particular by the work of Jackson Pollock. One of his first paintings from this period was bought by Peggy Guggenheim. In 1950, Alan Davie had his first solo exhibition in London. In 1956 he travelled to New York, and in the same year he was awarded the Prix Guggenheim at the Musee d'Arte Moderne in Paris. His art receives international recognition and attention. In 1958 he was represented at the Venice Biennale, in 1959 he took part in documenta II in Kassel, as well as in other documentas: documenta III in 1964 and documenta 6 in 1977.

                Original vintage sports poster for the 1972 Summer Olympic Games held from 26 August to 11 September 1972 in Munich Germany featuring a colourful abstract design by Alan Davie (1920-2014) in orange, purple, white, yellow, green and red. One of the series of posters by various popular artists of the period (Peter Phillips, Horst Antes, Otl Aicher, David Hockney among others) commissioned to design the 1972 Olympic Games posters in Germany for their advertising campaign, which aimed to "represent the intertwining of sports and art worldwide. The 1972 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XX Olympiad, was an international multi-sport event held in Munich, West Germany, from 26 August to 11 September 1972.
