        • Eisenhower menus from Camp David and USS St. Paul
          Oct. 07, 2017

Eisenhower menus from Camp David and USS St. Paul

          Est: $300 - $400

Two sets of breakfast, lunch and dinner menus from the Eisenhower administration, a little over 10 menus in total. The menus measure 9 x 6'' and are on official White House card stock with the Presidential Seal stamped in gold on the front. Each menu details the items that were served as well as the guests that were in attendance, including President Eisenhower, his wife and several important White House officials. It is probable that some of these menus served as first drafts, as various menus exhibit some handwritten notes and corrections. The menus are derived from two distinct trips taken by President Eisenhower. The first of which was a trip to Camp David, dated March 28, 1960 to March 30, 1960, in which President Eisenhower met with the British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, to deal with issues surrounding nuclear testing. The second set of menus come from the U.S.S. St. Paul CA-73 dated June 17-18, 1960, and relate to the President's trip from the Philippines to Taiwan, during his peace tour. These items come directly from the Hirschy family. Lieutenant Hirschy was Supply and Logistics Officer for the Military Aides to the President and Officer-in-Charge of the Navy Mess in the White House during both the Kennedy and Johnson administrations.Lt. Hirschy served in the White House from May 1, 1961 through May 31, 1965.
