      ADEL DAOUD (SYRIAN, B. 1980)

      Est: £450 - £550

ADEL DAOUD (SYRIAN, B. 1980) Damned Souls signed Adel Daoud and dated 2016 (lower right) mixed media and pen on paper 20 x 20 cm (7 3/4 x 7 3/4 in) PROVENANCE Private collection, London Born in Hasakeh, Syria; currently lives in Austria. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus in 2011, and has had several solo shows in Austria and Jordan; he also participated in numerous collective exhibitions in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Bahrain, Denmark, Germany, Turkey, France and Sweden. His works have been acquired by museums such as the British Museum, Barjeel Art Foundation, and Sharjah Art Museum. Damned Souls wander alone in an attempt to escape and unburden themselves of the weight of existence, of their sins. They challenge eternity and its meaning so that violence may be spilled over an empty space that stretches into nothingness. Daoud’s monochromatic beasts portray a sensitive take on childhood memory and his current representation of them. Using different paper manipulations and techniques, he brings out details allowing the viewer a gentle approach to these savage beasts.
