O'CONNELL DANIEL: (1775-1847) Irish Political Leader. A.L.S., Daniel O'Connell, one page, 4to, Cork,

    Est: £200 - £300

O'CONNELL DANIEL: (1775-1847) Irish Political Leader. A.L.S., Daniel O'Connell, one page, 4to, Cork, 18th August 1822, to James Luquer (?) of Dublin ('My dear James'). O'Connell sends his correspondent the remaining halves of the £10 and continues 'I beg of you to arrange with Charles McCarthy that the passage money for Maurice and the carriage should be paid on my arrival in Dublin', further instructing 'Let Maurice have his twelve guineas clear in his pocket….I entrust all to your kind and affectionate attention'. With integral address leaf in O'Connell's hand and with a red wax seal. A large area of paper loss to the integral leaf, only very slightly affecting the address panel. Some light age wear, otherwise VG Maurice O'Connell (c.1801-1853) Eldest Son of Daniel O'Connell who served in the British Parliament as a Member of Parliament from 1831-32, 1832-37 and 1838-53.

    May. 07, 2016

    O'CONNELL DANIEL: (1775-1847) Irish Political Leader. A.Q.S.

    Est: £80 - £100

O'CONNELL DANIEL: (1775-1847) Irish Political Leader. A.Q.S., Daniel O'Connell, one page, 4to, Llangollen, 25th January 1833. On a page removed from a Victorian scrapbook O'Connell has penned a four line quotation, in full, 'Still shall thou be my walking theme/ My glories still my midnight dream/ And every thought and wish of mine/ Unconquered Erin shall be thine'. Signed and dated immediately beneath the quotation. Below O'Connell's signature a small oblong 8vo engraving depicting a view of Nottingham Castle is laid down to the page. Some overall scuffing and age wear, about G O'Connell's quotation is taken from Charles Phillips (1787?-1859) Irish Barrister & Writer. As illustrated by the present quotation, O'Connell eulogised Phillips warmly and Phillips 'almost exhausted the vocabulary of praise in his public references to his panegyrist' (DNB, 1885-1900, Volume 45).
