XVII - 1750) Ecce Homo Olio su tela ovale, cm 71X60 Provenienza: Londra, Philips, 29 ottobre 1991, lotto 108 (come scuola fiorentina del XVII secolo) Allievo del padre Pier Dandini, Ottaviano ne seguì le orme, ma scarne sono le notizie biografiche. Realizzò affreschi nel chiostro di San Spirito, un quadro di diversi Santi per la chiesa di San Lorenzo e altre sue opere si rintracciano nella chiesa della Maddalena a Pescia, dimostrando un rispettabile talento. L'opera in esame si potrebbe collocare già al XVIII secolo e mostra un fare tagliente con accenni nordici, attestando una autonomia evidente rispetto allo stile paterno.

    OTTAVIANO DANDINI (FLORENCE 1681 - 1740 ) Studies of God Father and two figures battling in the lower part black chalk on paper 340 x 253 mm (13 1/4 x 10 in.) PROVENANCE: possibly Giovanni Targioni Tozzetti, Florence (1712-1783); possibly sale, London, Parsons & Sons, London, 1931 Bears inscription O.D in pen and black ink to the lower edge. In her piece on the collection Dandini-Targioni, Silvia Benassai (1) recalls that a group of 150 sheets was offered at auction in 1931 at Parsons &Sons, London (2) and was dispersed between public and private collections. All sheets carried an inscription in pen and black ink on the lower edge of each sheet with the initials of the drawings' authors, all belonging to the Dandini family. The initials O.D on the present sheet are similar to those on one in the British Museum (C.D, inv number 1930,0414.16). Haines, 1906 (verso Etikette). - Europäische Privatsammlung. Diese Darstellung geht auf das Drama 'Alkestis' von Euripides, verfasst um 438 n. Chr., zurück. Alkestis galt als schönste Tochter des Königs Pelias. Als ihr Gatte, König Admetos, plötzlich erkrankte, beschlossen die Götter, dass er weiterleben dürfte, sofern ein anderer Mensch willentlich seinen Platz als Toter übernehmen würde. Daraufhin opferte sich Alkestis und als der König sich wieder erholte, fand sie in der Unterwelt wieder. Als kurz darauf Herakles bei Admetos zu Besuch weilte, bot er sich an, Alkestis als Dank für die bei ihm erfahrene Gastfreundschaft zu retten. Als Hades am Grab Alkestis erschien, um sie abzuholen, verfolgte Herakles den Gott der Unterwelt und überredete ihn schließlich, sie wohlauf an ihren Gatten zurückzubringen.
