Our small, finely executed oil painting shows a view of the Alpspitze near (Garmisch- Parten)kirchen in the Reinthal. The imposing landscape is further provided with details such as the figure of a man on the banks of the rushing river, underlining the majesty of nature. The painting is inscribed in pen and ink 'Die Alpspitz bei .../ Kirch im Reinthal' on verso and is provided with handwritten notes in pencil. It is overall in good condition. The varnish is somewhat yellowed. The margins show few minor abrasions. No findings under UV. The painting measures 14.3 x 11.3 cm, the framed dimensions are 39 x 36 cm. Heinrich Dallwig (1811-1857) Heinrich Dallwig was born in Kassel in 1811 and settled in Munich in 1839. He had a passion for hiking and landscape painting, as a result his motives were drawn from the regions of Upper Bavaria and the Allgäu, which he had already captured in his 'Tyrolean sketchbooks'. In the beginning Dallwig trained after the paintings by Carl Rottmann and Eduard Schleich the Elder. Later, however, the works of Albert Zimmermann and Christian Etzdorf became inspiring examples.
