      Walter Barron Currier (1879-1934) American, Oil on Canvasboard. Signed and dated 1923 bottom right. Informational studio tags on back give title: "Afterglow, Laguna."  Overall: 15 X 13 in.  Sight: 11 1/2 X 9 1/2 in.  Depth: 1 1/2 in.  #2811 .  Walter Barron Currier was born in Springville, Massachusetts on May 3rd, 1879. From an early age he was interested in art, and attended both Brown and Cornell Universities, studying with Arthur Dow, Eben Comins, and Kenyon Cox. In 1913 he moved to Los Angeles and began to paint California landscapes and waterscapes. He also learned etching, printmaking, and illustration, which led him to a desire to pass on the knowledge. He became the head of the art department of Lincoln High School, and was a formative part of the local art scene. In 1926 he began teaching summer sessions at the University of California, Berkeley, and opened the Currier Creative Art School in Santa Monica. He died unexpectedly on January 11th, 1934, at the age of 55. His work can be found in the permanent collection of the San Diego Fine Art Gallery, and on display in various high schools across the state where he gave lectures and workshops.

Walter Currier is known for Landscape, illustrator, printmaker. Painter, craftsman, illustrator, etcher. Born in Springville, MA on May 3, 1879. Currier was educated at Brown and Cornell universities. Opting for an art career, he studied with Arthur Dow, Eben Comins, and Kenyon Cox. By 1913 he had settled in Los Angeles. While head of the art department of Lincoln High School, he was active in the local art scene. In 1926 he opened the Currier Creative Art School in Santa Monica.
