          CUMMINGS MICHAEL: (1919-1997) British Newspaper Cartoonist. An original 20 x 11.5 pen and ink cartoon by Cummings, drawn on art board, depicting Michael Ramsey, the Archbishop of Canterbury, flying a plane loaded with a bomb marked Filled with explosive sermons, the side of the plane with a banner Target for Today: Rhodesia. The plane is followed by three angels, each armed with a bomb, one marked with the name of Ian Smith, the Prime Minister of Rhodesia. On the ground below, Archbishop Makarios of Greece can be seen. The caption at the base of the cartoon reads 'Now that's the kind of Archbishop I like to see! The Church Militant!!". Signed ('Cummings') at the base. A newspaper reproduction of the published cartoon is neatly laid down to the verso and various ink annotations indicate that it appeared in The Daily Express on 28th October 1965.
