Ferdinand Carl Cürten (1892-1945) Born in Düsseldorf, the painter Ferdinand Carl Cürten first attended the School of Applied Arts and then changed to the Düsseldorf Art Academy. His early works were influenced by Rhine Impressionism. He traveled through Europe and North Africa. He was a member of the artist group ‘Das Junge Rheinland’ (1919-1923) and later of the ‘Rheingruppe’ (later Rhine Secession). Before the Second World War, the artist turned from oil painting towards watercolors. During the era of National Socialism, his works were regarded as ‘degenerate’, and two paintings from the art collection of the city of Düsseldorf were destroyed. On firm laid paper. 21,6 x 27,9 cm (8,5 x 10,9 in), the full sheet. [RS]. Provenienz: Private collection North Rhine-Westphalia. Der in Düsseldorf geborene Maler Ferdinand Carl Cürten beginnt seine Ausbildung an der Kunstgewerbeschule und der Kunstakademie seiner Heimatstadt. In diesen Jahren werden seine Arbeiten noch vom rheinischen Impressionismus beeinflusst. Cürten wird 1919 Mitglied der Künstlervereinigung 'Das Junge Rheinland', verlässt aber 1923 die Gruppe wieder und tritt der neu gegründeten 'Rheingruppe' bei, die sich 1928 zur 'Rheinischen Sezession' weiterentwickelt. Mit Ausbruch des Zweiten Weltkrieges wird der Künstler zum Wehrdienst einberufen und nach Nordafrika geschickt. Cürten stirbt kurz nach Kriegsende am 30. Mai 1945 im Lazarett des Schloßes Amelunxen.In good condition, colours still fresh. Minimally soiled. Edges irregularly trimmed. Margins with mounting tape along the reverse edges.
