Martin de la Cruz, Huichol Yarn painting

      Est: $350 - $450

Translation of Spanish writing verso: It is the day of the scorpions for that time and because of that time it is ____ side because their sons are stung hat's why the day of the scorpion is standing on stones. Huichol art broadly groups the most traditional and most recent innovations in the folk art and handcrafts produced by the Huichol people, who live in the states of Jalisco, Durango, Zacatecas and Nayarit in Mexico. The unifying factor of the work is the colorful decoration using symbols and designs which date back centuries. Yarn paintings consist of commercial yarn pressed into boards coated with wax and resin and are derived from a ceremonial tablet called a neirika. The imagery for Huichol yarn paintings is usually conjured by hallucinations seen while taking peyote, which is part of the Huicol people's religious ceremony.
