The Prince of Wales and others rejoice at the burning of the memoirs of Mary Anne Clarke, Mistress of Frederick, Duke of York; a scandal broke out over the fact that Clarke had been paid by army officers and clerics to help them gain promotion through her influence over the Duke, hand-coloured etching with stipple, autograph inscription from George Cruikshank below image stating "The faces & hands & some other parts by my father [Isaac] all the other parts by me. Geo. Fores, July 1794. " feminine dress of the present fashion is, perhaps, the most indecent ever worn in this country. The breast is altogether displayed; and the whole drapery, by the wanton management of the wearer in throwing it behind her, is made to cling so to the figure, that nothing can be said to be completely concealed. Johnston, 1810 § Williams (Charles) Universal Murderer of Domestic Happiness or the Fraternal Tyrant, a contrasting satire of marital distress as a half-demonic emmisary of Napoleon delivers instruction to his brother, Lucien, Prince of Canino, to divorce his wife in favour of a strategically better match, original hand-coloured etching, 250 x 355mm., [BM Satires 11583], S.W. Fores, 1810; with William Heath's satire from April of the same year, on the familiar subject of British and French contrasts, Meatey-Part: Bone-Part, a buxom cook holding a large joint of meat, while Napoleon sits dolefully in his tent, eating frogs, [not in BM Satires], by the engraver, 1810 (3)
