BIOGRAPHY: Danny Crouse was a realist painter of Western scenes in oil on masonite, special- izing in figures from the "Muzzleloaders Association," born in Hutchinson, Kansas, in 1938 and living in Toledo, Ohio, since 1972. "When I was eight years old," he recalls, "my cousin's girl friend would draw by copying the pictures from my coloring books. I continually pestered her to tell me how she could draw so well. Her answer was always the same, 'keep copying it over and over until you get it right. By the time I got them right, I became known as 'the artist.'"During my junior year in high school, I won a scholarship to a summer session for artists at the University of Kansas. This led to a BFA from U of K in 1961. My major was illustration. During the next years, I did very little painting for galleries as I was trying desperately to make a living as a commercial artist." Crouse worked in Hutchinson, Wichita, Kansas City, and finally in Toledo where his job for nine years was painting architectural art. He did the "entourage" for the buildings, that is, the cars, trees, scale figures, animals, etc., in full color casein.In the past few years, Crouse has been a free-lance illustrator, working for New York City accounts, doing mass mar- ket paperback books. In addition, he has been teaching and is studying toward his MA through an Independent Study Degree Program. During the summer of 1980, when he was 42 and had been painting for 25 years, he heard about "the opportunities in painting in the Southwest. During December of 1980, I visited Arizona and accidentally stopped by Husberg Fine Arts Gallery in Sedona. I showed them some of my paintings and they took two. This was the beginning of my association" with mar keting Western art.
