This painting was first published in The Autocar on page 74 of the 16 May 1930 issue, and again on 31 March 1961. With Autocar stamp to rear with handwritten sizing and title notes. Formerly the property of Autocar artist Gordon Horner, who trimmed the painting to fit the frame, cutting off part of the signature.

          Frederick Gordon Crosby (1885-1943) '1913 Peugeot takes the lead', signed, charcoal and watercolour on paper, 66 x 91cm, mounted, framed and glazed. The 1912 Peugeot L76 (L for Lion and 76 for engine size) was an extremely successful Voiturette racing car. Powered by a 4 cylinder in-line 7598cc engine, it was the first motorcar to use dual overhead camshafts, with four valves per cylinder and centrally mounted sparkplug. In 1912 it won the Mount Ventoux hill climb, Grand Prix de l'ACF, Coupe de Sarthe at Le Mans and the first Voiturette Grand Prix of France, in 1913 it defended it's title at Mt. Ventoux and Grand Prix de L'ACF, as well as claiming victories at the 1913 Indianapolis 500, and four other French motorsport races and events, they also took a World Record at Brooklands for the half mile rolling start at a speed of 177kmh, making the Peugeot Team the most successful racing team in Europe in 1913.

          Frederick Gordon Crosby (1885-1943) '1913 Grand Prix des Voiturettes, Boulogne', unsigned, charcoal and watercolour artist's preliminary sketch on paper, with artist's hand-written title, 50 x 43cm, mounted, framed and glazed. The VII Coupe des Voiturettes was run on the 21 September 1913 at Boulogne over 12 laps of a 51.983km circuit. The 623.8km was covered in a winning time of 6 hours 7 minutes and 40.8 seconds by Georges Boillot in a Peugeot carrying number 8. Car number 19, another Peugeot, finished second in 6 hours 16 minutes and 3.4 seconds, driven by Jules Goux, followed closely by Kenelm Lee Guinness in his Sunbeam, car number 23, in a time of 6 hours 18 minutes and 50.6 seconds.

          Frederick Gordon Crosby (1885-1943): 'The Best of 1938', signed and dated '38, mixed media, monochrome montage on artist's board, the overall image depicts nine separate motor racing scenes, each with hand-written title panel: British driver Richard Seaman, triumphs with a Mercedes in the German G.P. Louis Gerard's Delage wins the Tourist Trophy at Donington. An Austin victory early in the year when Charles Dobson won the Empire Trophy (with pencil correction to Dodson). Percy Maclure wins the International Trophy from Raymond Mays by 1 1/5 sec. Nuvolari, the Italian Ace, drives an Auto-Union to victory in the Donington G.P. Earl Howe scores a popular win in South Africa. Raymond Mays' E.R.A. regains the Shelsley record in 37.86 sec. St.J. Horsfall's Aston-Martin wins at Leinster. and Arthur Dobson and "Bira" duelled with their E.R.A.s in many races, the lower left hand image with line scored around edges, 54.5 x 78cm, framed and glazed.
