  • Craig (Edward Anthony) aka Edward Carrick. Wartime
    Sep. 20, 2012

Craig (Edward Anthony) aka Edward Carrick. Wartime

    Est: £150 - £200

Craig (Edward Anthony) aka Edward Carrick. Wartime submarine interior, pen and ink with monochrome ink wash, 195 x 325mm., signed and dated lower left, 1943. ***Edward Anthony Craig (1905-1998) was the son of the artist and stage designer, Edward Gordon Craig, and grandson of the actress Ellen Terry. He adopted the name Edward Carrick in the late 1920s to assert his own identity as his career in art, film and theatre began to establish itself. From 1939 to 1946 he was artistic director of Crown Film Unit, born out of the GPO Film Unit, making ostensibly propaganda films, to which he had been seconded. This drawing doubtless relates closely to this work..
