    Laurens Craen, um 1620 – 1665/71 Middelburg

    Est: €20,000 - €30,000

STILLLEBEN MIT RÖMER- UND STANGENGLAS, UMGEBEN VON CITRUSFRÜCHTEN UND RAUCHUTENSILIEN Öl auf Leinwand. 63 x 71 cm. Provenienz: Wohl: R. H. Ward, London, 1932. Wohl: D. A. Hoogendijk & Co., Amsterdam, 1932.  A.S. Drey, London, München, NY, 1932, (nach Doku. RKD).  Gallery Mortimer Brandt, New York (nach Doku. Portraits and Other Recent Acquisitions, Lawrence Steigrad Fine Arts, New York 2008, Nr. 12 (als von Laurens Crean). (14318611) Laurens Craen, ca. 1620 – 1665/71 Middelburg STILL LIFE WITH ROEMER AND STANGENGLAS SURROUNDED BY CITRUS FRUIT AND SMOKING ACCESSORIES Oil on canvas. 63 x 71 cm. The painting has been represented several times in important collections and exhibitions, as well as in the respective catalogs. Of particular interest is the tobacco wrapping paper on the left of the painting, on which the finely written text “R ./ Taback / I. / H.” can be seen (typeface comparable to a letter from Craen to Constantijn Huygens 1648, Royal Library, KA 42 aa, no. 95). The painter’s known oeuvre is not very large. In 1980, Nicolaas R. A. Vroom only named six paintings (see Lit.). By contrast, Sam Segal lists around twenty paintings. Provenance: Probably R. H. Ward, London, 1932. Probably D. A. Hoogendijk & Co., Amsterdam, 1932. A.S. Drey, London, Munich, NY, 1932, corresponding with RKD. Gallery Mortimer Brandt, New York (Documented Frick-Collection). S. Hartveld, N. Y. (as before). Acquired from there by S. u. Mary van Berg, NY, 1947 (Documented Frick-Collection). Private collection, Switzerland (exhibition 1980).
