David Cox Jnr. (British 1809-1885) Harvest scene with hay wagon and figures near a castle signed lower left 'David Cox' and dated 1854 watercolour 23 x 37cm There are no visible signs of foxing or spotting. However, there is a small area of white above the castle ruin which looks to be acid burning, but it is in fact a white pigment. Again, in the upper section close to the mount, there is a bluish substance applied to the surface. The paper has yellowed and discoloured consistantly throughout the composition. The colour pigment has retained well with the majorit of the fading having happened in the sky section. There are no visible signs of tears or rips. Unexamined out of the frame. Frame size: 49cm x 63cm

David Cox Jr. UK, (1809-1885) Horses Pulling a Covered Wagon watercolor on paper unsigned. Provenance: Mazelow Gallery, Toronto. Sears Vincent Price Gallery label verso. From the archives of AskArt: known as David Cox the Younger, David Cox II or David Cox Jr. to distinguish him from his better-known father David Cox, was an English painter in watercolour, mostly of landscapes. Born in Dulwich, London and educated at Hereford Grammar School, he was taught to paint and draw by his father, although he used a brighter colour palette than his father. As well as working around London, where made several paintings of the Norwood Gypsies and other local colour, his landscapes included Wales, Scotland, the Lake District, Devon, France, Switzerland and Italy. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1827, at the New Society of Painters in Water Colours from 1841 and the Society of Painters in Water Colours from 1848, where he would eventually exhibit 580 works. He died at his home in Streatham and was buried at West Norwood Cemetery. Source: Wikipedia, 2019
