    DESCRIPTION: John Covert (American, 1882-1960). Collection of framed photographs and oil painting by John Covert as well as his Auto Graphlex Jr. Camera. Camera includes metal film pack and leather case. Bauch and Lomb lens on camera. Includes: 1) Three photographs of work by Covert in single frame. 2) Photograph of a nude portrait of a woman. 3) Photograph entitled "Study for Water Babies". 4) Oil on unstretched canvas entitled "Untitled view of Munich or Paris". PROVENANCE: Previously exhibited at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Gardens and Penn State Palmer Museum of Art, PA. From the Collection of Charles Covert Arensberg, cousin to the artist. MEASUREMENTS: Various. CONDITION: Minimal wear to surface of photographs. Minor toning to some photographs. Appparent wear to surface of camera consistent with age, handling, and storage. Apparent hazing to lens. Cracking, losses, and fading camera case. Apparent rusting to back film plate. Dark ground glass. Losses to canvas. Minimal wear to surface of frames consistent with handling.
