        Charles Courtry (Paris, 1846 - 1897) French nineteenth century artist, Charles Courtry studied etching techniques in Paris under Flameng and Gaucherel. His first large etching, Le Marche d'esclaves (after Gerome) was exhibited in Paris in 1868. From that date he was a frequent exhibitor and received medals from the Paris Salon in 1874, 1875, 1887 and 1889. In 1881 Charles Courtry was decorated with the Legion d'honneur. He studied etching techniques in Paris under Francois Flameng and Leon Gaucherel. Courty is also known for copperplate engraving and illustration but during his career focused primarily on etchings, completing around 500. Most of them were interpretive of drawings by others artists including Jean Chardin, Thomas Couture, Mihaly Munkacsy, Francesco Guardi, Joseph Israels and Constant Troyon. Among his subjects is a portrait of artist, J.L. Ernest Meissonier, dated 1883. He also did an occasional still life etching such as Vase de Chelsea, 1874.
