This piece is from a series titled “The Human” painted in 1968 and 1969, and comes from the collection of Prince Lorenzo de’ Medici. The series is a series of mixed media paintings, depicting a simple man and the human emotion that is fear. The series tells a story of men fearful of war and fearful of massacres, including the fear of the Nuclear War in 1968. The artist has a style all his own, mixing Impressionist and graffiti elements and using resin and Italian volcanic earth creating a sculpture-like image and a rich brown red color palette. This piece has been in Prince Lorenzo’s personal collection for over 20 years, and has never been offered for sale. The pieces were purchased by Prince Lorenzo from a renowned antiquity store in Rome in 1990, and are from last collection of Corazza. Works by Corazza have been collected by four presidents of Italy, and by famous Italian celebrities of the 1950s-1980 such as actor Vittorio Gassman, director Federico Fellini and actor Marcello Mastroianni. His work was respected by artists such as Giacomo Manzu and Giorgio de Chirico. The painting measures approx. 30”H x 24”W (76cm x 61cm). The piece is signed in the lower right corner.
