Printed and published by Magnolia Editions, Oakland, California with the blind stamp lower right. A very good impression. This etching is a portrait of composer Philip Glass interpreted by Close (1940-2021) through the lens of the 17th century engraving, The Sudarium, or The Veil of St. Veronica by Claude Mellan. Mellan's use of a single engraved line inspired Close, who was an avid collector of Old Master prints and owned an impression of The Sudarium, to undertake the same feat with contemporary printing techniques at Magnolia Editions alongside master printer Nicholas Price.
