      A rare print by Nicolaes Jansz. Clock (pupil of Goltzius) published by Conrad Golz (The brother of Hendrick Goltzius) after the design of Karel van Mander: The Judgement of Midas: Music competition between Pan in the centre and Apollo, under a tree on the left. Gods watch the competition. The mountain god Tmolus is seated and makes the judgment that he prefers Apollo's lyre over Pan's flute. King Midas stands next to Pan protesting, but he is cursed by Apollo, and Midas thenceforth has to wear donkey ears. Engraved by Claus Clock, after a design by Karel van Mander, Published by Conrad Golz/ (Goltzius). Inscriptions: "Claus Clock sculp." "Conradt Goltz excudit" "KMandere iuent." "Ao 1589". Verses by Estius "Arecdas...Phebo''. A good impression with good plate tone on watermarked laid paper.

      Engraving on laid paper by Nicolaes Clock after Hendrick Goltzius watermarked with a set of scales and an imperial orb. (1596). 25.4 x 17 cm (sheet size). A good, strong impression from the series: The five senses. Trimmed slightly within the plate edge. - Paper partially firmly mounted to the backboard. A c. 0.8 cm tear to the lower right edge. A c. 1 cm tear to the upper left edge. Paper slightly soiled and stained. Horizontal centrefold, otherwise in good condition.
