      Est: £200 - £300

Antoine François Jean Claudet (1797-1867) Antoine François Jean Claudet (1797-1867) PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG GIRL, c.early 1840s, monochromatic ninth plate daguerreotype, a very striking image, taken on the same backdrop as Claudet's famous study of Fox Talbot (1844), in a plain brass mount, with wharton style unmarked red morocco case, with single lower hinge, plate has been cleaned and resealed The backdrop of this particular daguerreotype is identical to that of the famous Claudet portrait of Talbot (1844). The exposure is taken with the camera, in an almost identical position. This could suggest that this daguerreotype was taken during the same sitting. The vendor believed this to be a study of Talbot's Daughter Ela Theresa (1836-1839), however we cannot corroborate this theory with any supporting evidence at the time of cataloguing.
