    (1811-1877) Confederate brigadier general who was wounded at the Battle of Shiloh and after became the last Confederate governor of Mississippi. E.S. as governor on the verso of an unusual war date document, 2pp. legal folio, Macon, 1863, a lengthy resolution regarding the financing of the state lunatic asylum. The document requests the Governor to authorize the sale of cotton from the asylum to pay for needed supplies. Signed on the verso as approved. The script is faded but still discernible. Scattered foxing.

    Antique Charles H. Clark London Cathedral Etching. Pencil signed by the artist on the lower right corner, blind stamp on the lower left, and marked on the backside "Published by Frost & Reed Ltd. Bristol & London." Charles Herbert Clark was born in 1890, then studied at the Liverpool School of Art and exhibited some 44 works at the Walker Gallery in Liverpool and later exhibited at the Royal Academy. He was a soldier in The Liverpool Scottish Regiment and the bulk of his work was completed in the inter war years. Artist: Charles H. Scarce partly-printed war-date D.S. as Governor, on Executive Office, Treasurer's Warrant form, 1p. 4to., Mar. 9, 1864, an order that the State Treasurer issue a warrant in the amount of $1,325 in favor of Capt. W. S. Williams. Very good.
