LLUÍS CLARAMUNT (Barcelona, 1951 - Zarautz, Gipuzkoa, 2000). "Composition", 1987. Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower left corner. Measurements: 80 x 100 cm. Painter, draftsman, photographer and engraver of self-taught formation, Lluís Claramunt spent his life between Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Bilbao and Marrakesh, and developed a work influenced by Isidre Nonell and marked by an expressionism in its beginnings, which will gradually disappear until it becomes a minimal calligraphy. Since the seventies he held solo exhibitions in prominent galleries such as Dau al Set in Barcelona, Quatre Gats in Palma de Mallorca, Juana de Aizpuru in Seville or Buades in Madrid, and also participated in Arco (1984, 1988). He also had solo exhibitions in New York, Amsterdam, Graz (Austria) and Lisbon. Likewise, in 2012 his work was shown in the solo exhibition "El viatge vertical", held at the MACBA in Barcelona. He is currently represented in that museum, the Fundació Vila Casas, the La Caixa Collection, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Álava, the Asociación Colección de Arte Contemporáneo de Madrid, the Consejo Superior de Deportes and the Ministerio de Cultura in the same city and the Colección Caja Madrid. Recently Claramunt has exhibited at the prestigious gallery Marc Domenech in Barcelona, who dedicated his exhibition "Luis Claramunt. Años 80" entirely to the artist's work. The exhibition, held in May 2016, featured more than seventy works that demonstrated the artist's predilection for urban spaces, represented through a totally expressionistic palette in which a dynamic and vibrant palette predominates.

LLUÍS CLARAMUNT (Barcelona, 1951 - Zarautz, Gipuzkoa, 2000). "Entrance to the souk", 1987. Oil on canvas. With Dau Al Set Gallery label on the back. Signed in pencil in the lower right corner. Measurements: 81 x 100 cm; 102 x 123 cm (frame).

LLUIS CLARAMUNT (Barcelona, 1951 - Zarautz, Gipuzkoa, 2000). "Composició", 1973. Oil on canvas. With information label on the back from the Galería Dau al Set (Barcelona). Work exhibited in "Luis Claramunt XI-82". Dated in the upper right area. Measurements: 114 x 146 cm; 115 x 147 cm (frame). In a scene that oscillates between figuration and the abstract, the author introduces us into a personal and imaginary world with a markedly dreamlike character. It is a work of expressionist aesthetics, in which a dynamic and vibrant brushstroke predominates. The energy that Claramunt's works give off, as in this particular case, gains descriptive power and drama with the use of an intense palette of colours, at the same time extraordinarily short, with an abundance of blues and ochres. The piece belongs to an early period of his artistic career, with a markedly expressive character which over the years would become more relaxed in both composition and tonality. In this work entitled Composició, the chromatic range has a great prominence, based on the contrast between blue and red. However, the painting does not focus its attention solely on colour, but presents forms of figurative personality that are shown in an inconcrete way, captured with a rapid, diagonal brushstroke that marks the sense of the scene, whose perspective is reduced, giving way to a narrow space with a great emotional charge. A self-taught painter, draughtsman, photographer and engraver, Lluís Claramunt spent his life between Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Bilbao and Marrakesh, and developed an oeuvre influenced by Isidre Nonell and marked by an expressionism in its beginnings, which gradually disappeared until it became a minimal calligraphy. During the late 1970s and 1980s, Claramunt began to focus his attention on urban spaces. This work is a clear reflection of that interest as it depicts the skyline of a city from a singular perspective, using a unique composition. In the foreground, the artist places a grille and only behind it does he depict the city. In the artist's own words: "As for the execution and the approach to the work in general, it is the use of the stain without a previous scheme, made without meaning, and then extracting an idea, a sensation, and coupling it to a memory; in short, mixing two realities: one more direct, the fortuitous accident, and another less real, that which can be given by the will, the memory, the unconscious memory". Work exhibited in "Luis Claramunt XI-82". Signed and dated in the upper right-hand corner. Dated in the lower right-hand corner. Measurements: 130 x 162 cm; 131 x 163 cm (frame). During this decade, the artist painted mainly urban spaces. Streets, squares, harbours, all those places where a truly spontaneous activity takes place, spaces in which he finds real situations and scenes, linked to a life without filters, and which bring him closer to an instinctive and immediate world, not in keeping with the family background of his childhood and youth. Lluis Claramunt left his family environment in Barcelona's Ensanche to go and live in the more humble areas of the city, around the Plaza Real and the Ramblas, where he found the necessary experiences that would become the subjects of his paintings. But Barcelona is not the only setting for his work. Madrid, Seville and Marrakech. LLUÍS CLARAMUNT (Barcelona, 1951 - Zarautz, Gipuzkoa, 2000). "Composition", 1981. Oil on canvas. Signed in the upper right corner. With a label of the Galeria d'Art Dau al Set on the back. Measurements: 130 x 195 cm; 132 x 197 cm (frame). A self-taught painter, draughtsman, photographer and engraver, Lluís Claramunt spent his life between Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Bilbao and Marrakesh, and developed a work influenced by Isidre Nonell and marked by an expressionism in its beginnings, which gradually disappeared until it became a minimal calligraphy. From the 1970s onwards he held solo exhibitions in leading galleries such as Dau al Set in Barcelona, Quatre Gats in Palma de Mallorca, Juana de Aizpuru in Seville and Buades in Madrid, and also took part in Arco (1984, 1988). He has also had solo exhibitions in New York, Amsterdam, Graz (Austria) and Lisbon. In 2012 his work was also shown in the solo exhibition "El viatge vertical", held at the MACBA in Barcelona. He is currently represented at the MACBA, the Fundació Vila Casas, the La Caixa Collection, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Álava, the Asociación Colección de Arte Contemporáneo de Madrid, the Consejo Superior de Deportes and the Ministerio de Cultura in the same city and the Caja Madrid Collection. Claramunt has recently exhibited at the prestigious Marc Domenech gallery in Barcelona, who dedicated his exhibition "Luis Claramunt. Años 80" entirely dedicated to the artist's work. The exhibition, held in May 2016, featured more than seventy works which demonstrated the artist's predilection for urban spaces, represented through a totally expressionistic palette in which a dynamic and vibrant palette predominates.
