(within the plate, lower left), inscribed and dated 'B Mariette [?] 1676' (in pen, lower left), bears collector's mark for George Usslaub [Lugt L.1221] verso, 48.5 x 35.4 cm. (unframed / mounted). Provenance: Collection of George Usslaub (1845-c.1929), according to the collector's stamp. Ciampelli Agostino (Firenze 1565 - Roma 1630) San Giovanni Battista Olio su tavola 71 x 58,5 cm L'opera è corredata di uno studio della dottoressa Alessandra Tamborino, disponibile su richiesta via email In questa interessante opera viene rappresentato san Giovanni Battista benedicente: il santo è rappresentato a figura intera, si erge fiero all'interno di un paesaggio silvestre, avvolto da un panneggio rosso brillante su cui poggia la mano, che tiene arrotolato il tradizionale cartiglio con l'iscrizione "Ecce Agnus Dei" ("Ecco l'Agnello di Dio"), alludendo al sacrificio di Cristo sulla croce. La composizione simmetrica e tradizionale, composta e pacata, con i particolari caratteri tipologici del personaggio e i dati stilistici ed esecutivi, inducono ad assegnare l'opera al catalogo di Agostino Ciampelli, uno dei migliori artisti toscani attivi tra la fine del XVI e gli inizi del XVII secolo tra Firenze e Roma. zugeschrieben. Esther vor Ahasver. Rötelzeichnung. 27,9 x 18,6 cm. Ciampelli gehört zu einer Gruppe Florentiner Künstler, die ihre künstlerische Prägung noch im späten 16. Jahrhundert erfuhren, aber bis weit ins 17. Jahrhundert tätig waren. Nach Beendigung seines Studiums an der Accademia in Florenz im Jahr 1585, arbeitete Ciampelli für die Medici, für die er mehrere Fresken ausführte. Erwähnenswert ist insbesondere der Freskenzyklus im Florentiner Palazzo Corsi, Residenz des Kardinals Alessandro de Medici, mit Darstellungen aus dem Leben der Esther, mit dem vorliegende Zeichnung möglicherweise in Zusammenhang steht. Die Zuschreibung an Ciampelli wurde von Prof. Miles Chappell, Williamsburg vorgeschlagen (lt.
