    A landscape etching by Arent Christensen depicts figures working on stone bridge in river gorge setting, artist-signed as photographed, seated in tiger maple frame, 20th century. Measures: 16.5" H x 20" W x .75" DAdditional information:Arent Christensen (printmaker, Norwegian, Male, 1898-1982)Also known as: Christensen, Arent LauriBiographyPrintmaker. The artist claimed to have invented a technique similar to aquatint in appearance and called the "chrisgrafia" technique after the artist. See Nouvelles de L'Estampe no.16, Jan-Feb 1975 p.44. The prints are made by painting the image on to the plates with strong varnish mixed with sand or marble dust, and 'adding' to this black oil paint for the dark parts of the image, white oil paint for the light parts. When the varnish is dry (4-12 hours) the plate is ready for printing. It is unclear how the impression was made and whether the oil paints was mixed into the varnish or painted over it.
