    Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki (1726-1801), Two copper engravings, 18th century. Two copper engravings framed with passepartout in wooden frames painted in gold. One a small portrait in profile of "Sophie Becker" (probably 1791) in a circle decorated with a skull with wings at the bottom and the other "Tusnelde in captivity". The scene shows Thusnelda, the daughter of the Cheruscan prince Segestes and wife of the Cheruscan prince Arminius, being led as a prisoner. The parties are standing opposite each other on a drawbridge. Below the text: "Tusnelde in captivity shows more greatness than the victor". Both signed lower right. Dimensions: The former: frame dimensions approx. 28.5 x 38 cm, image dimensions approx. 8x9 cm, the latter: Frame size approx. 32 x 44.5 cm, image size approx. 15.5 x 22 cm. Both in good condition with staining. Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki (born 1726 in Danzig; died 1801 in Berlin) was a German engraver, graphic artist and illustrator. He was taught by Johann Jakob Haid from Augsburg, the Berlin history painter Bernhard Rode and Johann Heinrich Meil, among others. Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki (1726-1801), Zwei Kupferstiche, 18. Jh. Zwei Kupferstiche mit Passepartout in mit Goldfarbe bemalten Holzrahmen gerahmt. Einmal das kleine Porträt im Profil von "Sophie Becker" (wohl 1791) in einem Kreis der unten mit einem Totenkopf mit Flügeln verziert ist und einmal "Tusnelde in Gefangenschaft". Die Szene zeigt Thusnelda, die Tochter des Cheruskerfürsten Segestes und Gemahlin des Cheruskerfürtsen Arminius, wie sie als Gefangene geführt wird. Die Parteien stehen sich gegenüber auf einer Zugbrücke. Darunter der Text: "Tusnelde in Gefangenschaft zeigt mehr Größe als der Sieger". Beide unten rechts signiert. Maße: Ersteres: Rahmenmaß ca. 28,5 x 38 cm, Bildmaß ca. 8x9 cm, Zweites: Rahmenmaß ca. 32x44,5 cm, Bildmaß ca. 15,5 x 22 cm. Beide in gutem Zustand mit Fleckenbildung. Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki (geboren 1726 in Danzig; gestorben 1801 in Berlin) war ein deutscher Kupferstecher, Grafiker und Illustrator. Er wurde u.a. vom Augsburger Johann Jakob Haid, dem Berliner Historienmaler Bernhard Rode und Johann Heinrich Meil unterrichtet.

Im "Lauenburger genealogischen Kalender auf das Jahr 1780" erschienen. Ausgezeichneter Abzug auf einem in zwei Hälften geschnittenen Bogen, demnach mit feinem Rändchen um die Facette bzw. oben der Einfassung. Je auf einem Bogen festen Papiers montiert, an den Klebestellen das Papier leicht wellig, ein Blatt mit Randeinriss links, beide minimal lichtrandig, sonst gut. Aus der Sammlung der Fürsten zu Liechtenstein, auf deren Montierung. Prachtvoller, experimentell wirkender Druck von der verätzten Platte mit breitem Rand. Im weißen Rand schwach stockfleckig, rechte untere Eckspitze minimal bestoßen, verso schwache diagonale Knickfalte, kleine Montierungsreste sowie Bleistiftannotation, sonst in sehr schöner Erhaltung. Selten.
