      Two John Cheney Wood original lithographs. Both are pencil signed lower right. Stated in pencil "proof" and "6 imp." lower left. They measure 12.75" x 19.75" and 14.25" x 20.5" sheet sizes. Good condition with light toning, light creases and tape on verso. Unframed, loose and not glued or mounted. Provenance: Amity Art Foundation, Inc. collection.       COLLECTION OF THIRTY-EIGHT GILT FRAMED ENGRAVINGS BY JOHN CHENEY, INCLUDING ONE OF MARTHA WASHINGTON. Engraver, lithographer and portrait painter, John Cheney was born in South Manchester, CT, October 20, 1801. Cheney maintained a studio in Boston where he worked for the Pendletons' Lithography firm from 1826-29. In 1833 he traveled to Europe to further his art studies. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and returned to the US after 1835, where he executed numerous engravings for various book and periodical publishers. All are gilt framed, with paper mats. Some with gilt filets. Many with notations to back depicting sitter, and/or publication. One is a print of Martha Washington, after Gilbert Stuart, in round frame. All ranging in size from (38 total).
